Wildlife Wednesday: Whose Spooky Eyes Are These?

We were driving on a dirt road, coming down from Peavine Mountain. I was in the passenger seat with my cell phone in hand because I’d been snapping photos of the sunset, a quickly fading but intensely orange, yellow, and pink glow that highlighted the silhouette of the desert mountains. Particles in the air from the recent wildfires likely helped to create these sorbet-like colors…a wisp of grey smoke swept across the vibrant sky like stretched gauze, revealing the truth and tainting an otherwise delicious desert dessert.

It was now dark when suddenly our headlights caught a fleeting glimpse of the back leg of a large critter as it hurried up the bank of the dirt road, into the sagebrush and then into blackness. It happened too quickly to get a photo. We stopped and I stuck the camera as far out the window with one hand as I could reach, blindly pointing it into the darkness to the east of us. I guessed where the animal might be in the black abyss and snapped the photo. I was pleasantly and spookily surprised to get this eerie shot of someone looking back at us…

Hi Frank! Thank you for sharing your experience. That's an intriguing observation - I had not considered a racoon!

The eyes,? appears to be that of a Racoonj. I have seen this color at night (headlights) while driving.

Hi Brian! Hmmmm...I'm sorry? Was she always spooky or is it a recent thing?

Hi Jan! You must have seen my post on fb about the moose being discovered recently in northern Nevada...?! Not too far-fetched of a guess? :-D
Jan H. S. Kleven October 26, 2017 @05:16 pm
I think it's a moose
